Menu

Avoid menu groups that include

  • only one single Context. If possible, try to find a grouping that results in menu groups having more than one single Context.

  • so many Contexts that the navigation gets difficult. Although there is no recommendation for a maximum number, each menu group should be kept easy to manage. If there are too many Contexts, try to divide them into multiple menu groups - e.g., divide menu group "Sales" into "Sales (in-house)" and "Sales (field)".

Icons

Icons of menu groups

For a better orientation, a menu group should be identifiable not only by a textual term, but also by an icon. You can set it in the menu editor of the ADITO Designer, by clicking on the respective menu group and selecting one of the icons available in the comobox of property "icon".

You may use the lookup function of the icon combobox along with an asterisk in order to find an icon quickly - e.g., type *contact in order to filter all icons having the term "CONTACT" in their names.

Alternatively to selecting from the predefined icons, you can specify your own icon via the "3 dots" button to the right of the comobobox. (In this case, always use a scalable vector graphic (.svg), so the image can automatically be scaled properly to meet different screen resolutions.) However, adding own icons should be the exception, as they possibly misfit to the design of the predefined icons. Therefore, we recommend you to ask ADITO for advice, whenever you fail to find a suitable icon. If your use case can be generalized, it is possible that ADITO will design a new icon according to your requirements.

In the client, the icon of a menu group appears both in the Global Menu and (if a Context of this menu group is selected) in the Global Bar.

Icons of Contexts

If you select a menu group (or one of its Contexts), all Contexts of this menu group appear in the sidebar, represented as icons. Each Context should have its own icon, because otherwise, a questionsmark is displayed as placeholder.

Note that, technically, the icon is NOT set in the Context model, but in Entity model that is assigned to this Context. (An icon set in the Context model is only displayed in the project tree and in the menu editor of the Designer.)

Icons of Actions

An icon needs to identify an Action distinctly. One and the same icon must not be used for multiple different Actions. Whenever an Action appears only as a button with an icon, but without the Action’s title, then a suitable tooltip should be set.
