General information about the connection of Microsoft Exchange

The connection of Microsoft Exchange to ADITO is done via Microsoft Exchange Web Services. The logon is done from ADITO to the Internet Information Services (IIS) manager of the Exchange server and then forwarded to the Exchange server itself.

AID081 Anbindung ADITO Exchange

Normally, ADITO directly accesses the Exchange server where the mailbox of the user whose Exchange items (e.g. appointments) are to be accessed resides.

Scope of functions

The ADITO Exchange Web Services (EWS) interface supports the bidirectional creation, editing and removal of appointments. In addition, appointments can be added and cancelled.

In ADITO appointments with participants can be displayed, which are not known to ADITO itself (external participants). These participants cannot be invited from ADITO by default.

Appointments as well as tasks can be managed.

Access to Exchange

Access to user accounts

Basically, there are two ways to access user mailboxes in ADITO:

  • Impersonation: In the access definition of ADITO it is specified that a so-called Impersonation User should log on to Exchange. This is a user who is allowed to impersonate the user logged on in ADITO and is given the rights of this user. Impersonation is not a superuser, strictly speaking this user does not need any rights in ADITO except the role 'ApplicationImpersonation'.

  • Direct Login: Here the Exchange credentials can be specified for each user, and the users will then login directly to the Exchange server. With this login, links of appointments with other records (e.g. company, contact person, etc.) cannot be displayed. This is only possible with caching.

Possible Exchange servers that can be addressed

The following Exchange servers can be addressed directly from the ADITO server:

  • Mailbox server (MBX) Client Access Server (CAS)

Specification of domain names and user addresses

When specifying domains, always use upper case, for user names always use lower case, e.g. user@DOMAIN.DE
